The Hounds seem unstoppable this season as they dominate yet again, this time on home turf (or, one might say, home surf). Coming off of a big win last Saturday at Walla Walla, Pullman carried the momentum into their first home meet of the season, creating what seemed to be a tsunami of power. Winning all eleven events and sweeping six, the Hounds displayed their spread of speed to opposing Cheney. Summing it up with simplicity, “It was a solid meet,” says head coach Ed Davis. This is a humble understatement; the Hounds bested the Blackhawks 127 to 43. Back at it again, junior Holden Ellsworth showed his amazing speed, swimming the 200 IM and the 50 freestyle. Missing his own school record by a mere 0.29 seconds and winning by nearly 18 seconds in the IM, Ellsworth showed the Blackhawks what he was made of with his time of 1:58.39. Senior Josh Joireman also swam speedily with his state-qualifying time of 1:51.05 in the 200 freestyle, dropping more than five seconds from the last dual meet. Other notable swims include freshman Felix Gomez’s 100 freestyle time of 49.84, qualifying for state by almost two seconds. The boys look to improve on their already impressive season next Saturday as they host Prosser and Grandview at the PAC.
