Greyhounds' Track & Field Headed to the 23rd Covina Invitational
The Pullman Greyhounds’ Track & Field team will spend their spring break at the 23rdAnnual Covina Invitational held on Saturday, March 29that Azusa Pacific University.
Seniors Pamela Henderson, Nolan Wenger, Erin Keizer; juniors Sam Chiang, John Landers Haley Varnum, Miranda Hyatt, and Amelia Galloway; and sophomore Angel Nkwonta will participate in the event.
The competition will take place from 8am-6:30pm and will feature over 50 schools and over 2,000 athletes, including your Pullman Greyhounds varsity athletes. The top three places for each event will receive medals and team championship trophies as well as MVP awards will be also awarded in each division.
The fun won’t end on Saturday as the Greyhounds plan on going to Disneyland on Sunday before they return on Monday.

Hounds Look to Improve at Home
The Pullman High School track and field team began its 2014 season on Saturday, March 22ndas the varsity athletes traveled to Lewiston while the JV team competed in Lapwai. The hounds placed 3rdas a team at Lewiston thanks to several standouts such as Kosey Smith, John Landers, Amelia Galloway, and Angel Nkwonta. Coming up this Thursday, Clarkston and Logos will come to Pullman to compete in the first home meet of the season. Most of the hounds look to continue to sharpen their skills in their second meet while a few individuals will try to improve on marks which were considered impressive for this early in the season. The meet is set to start at 4:00 on Thursday, however the hounds will have to deal with unfavorable weather conditions as there is a chance of rain and a high temperature of 46.
Track and Field Kicks off the Season at the Lewiston Invitational
The Greyhound track and field kicked off the season at the Lewiston Invitational this Saturday. The boys' team finished fourth overall with 77.5 points. Kosey Smith started off the season well, taking first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.43 seconds. Jeremiah Cox followed close behind with a fifth place finish and a time of 55.41. In the 800 meter run, Peter Schumaker finished with a time of 2:12.06 and a seventh place finish out of the twenty three runners in that race. The Pullman High School distance medley relay team of James Holstad, Peter Schumaker, Jeremiah Coxand Karl Fischerfinished with a solid time of 12:12.82, finishing third. In the shot put John Landers finished first, beating the second place finisher by 6 feet.
The Girls’ team finished third overall with 78 points. Angel Nkwonta finished first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.13 seconds. Amelia Galloway finished second in the 400 meter dash with her personal best 1:03.90. The Pullman 4x200 relay team of Amelia Galloway, Pamela Henderson, Angel Nkwonta and Erin Keizur finished third with a time of 1:52.55. Pullman’s 4x400 team finished second with a time of 4:27.70. Angel Nkwonta also showed her skill off the track with a second place finish in the shot put with 39’05” feet. The freshman Carolena Sears tied for first on the high jump, jumping 4’10”.
The Pullman High school Track team continues its season with their first home meet on Thursday, March 27th.
