The only time the Pullman Boys cross country team has gotten on the podium was in 1973 (44 years ago). On Saturday Pullman was looking to match that, looking to place top four at state after dominating at regionals. The race started and it was chaotic from the beginning with 158 high school athletes racing in it. Eventually the dust settled and the front 3 Pullman boys (Eliason Kabasenche, Roman Romanyuk, and Patrick Nairimo) were in about 40th at the first mile, with Aron James, Sebastien Lewis, and Oscar Edge following close behind running the first mile in 5:20. As the race went on the competion spread out and the front Pullman pack started to pick people off. Cody Skay of West Valley (who placed 10th at state last year) was one of the many who went out too hard and died because of it, falling behind Pullman 6th runner finishing 78th. Finally, it came to a sprint, where Eliason Kabasenche out sprinted two other runners to finish 8th, next followed Roman Romanyuk and Patrick Nairimo who got 11th and 20th overall respectively. These front three Pullman boys all beat Pullman High Schools 5k record: Sophomore Eliason Kabasenche now holds it with a time of 16:04. Pullman would finish 2nd overall being beaten by Sehome by only 13 points.
The Girls also ran where Jenna Herzog set a season record for herself getting 20th overall with a time of 19:36 and Charity Cordova got 48th with a time of 20:20
Congratulations on Pullman High Schools incredible, record breaking, historical season. They will look to improve and come back stronger than ever next year.
